"The doctors and nurses are both professional and friendly. Even though we are far from home, we felt a warmth like family." Six Bangladeshi patients expressed their full appreciation for the hospital's work upon discharge, having received not only precise treatment but also warmth and respect during their stay in the International Medical Department of our hospital.
To further enhance the hospital's international medical services and support the development of a National Regional Cancer Center based in Yunnan, serving Southwest China and extending to South and Southeast Asia, the hospital established the International Medical Department in August. Operating under the Geriatric Oncology Department, and with the Medical Affairs Department collaborating on an implementation plan, this initiative aims to facilitate the 'Belt and Road' connectivity and ensure orderly international medical operations.
To better serve foreign patients, the International Medical Department leverages hospital resources and conducts Multi-Disciplinary Treatment (MDT) collaborations with departments such as Radiology, Pathology, Clinical Nutrition, and the Breast Center. Based on the patient's actual condition, they develop personalized diagnosis and treatment plans to provide targeted care.
To address communication barriers during the treatment process, the hospital coordinates volunteers to provide accompaniment services. Departments like Finance and Medical Technology have opened green channels. Illustrated English health education manuals, covering admission guidance, equipment use, treatment methods, and managing side effects, were created to help foreign patients understand key aspects of their care. The medical team also pays attention to patients' psychological well-being, taking targeted measures to alleviate anxiety associated with receiving treatment abroad.
For seamless communication, the department organizes collective daily morning study sessions for medical staff using the "Resident Physician English Handbook" and practical spoken English. Ward rounds are conducted in English to improve language proficiency, ensuring precise and efficient service for foreign patients.
Since its establishment, the International Medical Department has conducted cancer prevention consultations for 30 foreign patients and provided treatment for 6 Bangladeshi patients, receiving unanimous positive feedback and fully demonstrating the hospital's international medical service standards. Moving forward, the hospital will actively serve and integrate into the high-quality co-construction of the 'Belt and Road,' continue to leverage its strengths in cancer prevention and treatment, build a high-level international medical service platform, and strive to provide all patients with superior, warm, and convenient medical care.
