The meeting discussed the diagnosis and treatment plans for difficult digestive system cancer cases through multidisciplinary team discussion. Dr. Han Shuting shared a case of rectal cancer patients with mismatch repair protein deficiency but finally avoiding reoperation after recurrence. This locally advanced rectal cancer patient underwent radical resection after receiving neoadjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy. One year later, local pelvic recurrence occurred and immunotherapy was performed to achieve clinical complete remission. “A waiting observation strategy” was adopted, and no recurrence occurred within one year. This reflects the applicability of neoadjuvant immunotherapy to low locally advanced rectal cancer patients with MSI-H/dMMR mutations. After the patient reaches clinical complete remission, adopting “waiting observation strategy” not only achieves organ preservation but also ensures oncological prognosis. Dr. Zhang Xuan shared a case of intestinal cancer with multiple liver metastases, which benefited from long-term survival after treatment. This case is highly exemplary and reflects how patients with metastatic colorectal cancer can benefit from personalized, standardized, and precise diagnosis and treatment discussed in MDT. The diagnosis and treatment process also reflects the importance of multidisciplinary team collaboration and full process patient management: every MDT discussion can be a turning point in the patient's life, so MDT discussions need to run through the entire treatment process, and conduct dynamic evaluations, adjust treatment goals and strategies in a timely manner also required. MDT team members should fully utilize their professional knowledge, collaborate with each other, combine local and systemic treatments, and maximize the survival rate and quality of life of patients.

This MDT meeting is one of the series of activities for the 90th anniversary of Kunming Medical University, and it is also an important measure for YCH to strengthen international cooperation and promote disciplinary exchanges. The meeting fully mobilized the advantageous resources of both parties, and experts shared the latest diagnosis and treatment technologies and research results, which injecting new vitality into the YCH digestive system tumor MDT team, and will generate a positive impact on the treatment effectiveness of patients.
